Alginates

CE Marked & Available in FDA territories

Overview

The absorbent alginate fibres in the dressing gel on contact with the wound fluid and gently conform to the wound surface. Alginates absorb exudate away from the wound while maintaining an ideal moist wound environment.

Highly absorbent alginate dressings are a staple of clinicians. On contact with wound fluid, the alginate dressings gel and conform to the wound surface, absorbing exudate and maintaining a moist environment. Their conformability makes them ideal for cavities or hard-to-dress wounds.

Alginate is a natural polymer that exists widely in many species of brown seaweed. The biological function of alginates is to give strength and flexibility to the algal tissue and regulate the water content in the seaweed. It is these properties, along with the ability to produce fibres from it, that make alginates an ideal wound dressing.

Highly absorbent

On contact with wound exudate, the dressing turns into a soft gel. This helps absorb exudate to create a moist wound healing environment, aid autolytic debridement, and promote the formation of granulation tissue and wound progression.

The AMS Alginate dressing range is available in a diverse range of formats for the treatment of both topical and cavity wounds.

Alginates is available both as OEM and under our ActivHeal brand. To find out more about the ActivHeal Aquafiber® range, download resources and view performance data, visit ActivHeal.com
