Oracle DBA

Summary

An opportunity has arisen within the Information Systems Team for an Oracle DBA at Winsford.  You will be the primary DBA, supporting all existing implementations of Oracle eBusiness Suite, and associated Oracle products and technologies within the AMS Group of companies. The role will report to the Oracle Project Manager.

Key Accountabilities:

• To provide DBA support and guidance for new IS projects involving Oracle databases and associated Oracle products and technologies
• To ensure that tasks are carried out in accordance with the AMS Quality Management system and software validation lifecycle
• To ensure that any related upgrades, replacements and improvements are implemented following IS change control procedures
• To develop and maintain custom PL/SQL code, forms and reports as required
• Evaluate and assist in managing the deployment of new Oracle software and system updates, working with the Oracle Project Manager to ensure minimum disruption to the business
• Ensure the smooth running of the Oracle systems within the department and respond to technical problems in a timely manner
• To update any relevant documentation associated with system changes
• To assure an appropriate level of security for all servers/databases and the information stored on them
• Proactively seek out any areas for improvement and make recommendations
• To recommend, test and perform the installation of upgrades and patches to Oracle applications and related operating systems
• Establish and maintain backup and recovery policies and procedures
• To perform database application tuning and performance monitoring
• To assist with planning for growth and changes (capacity planning)

The ideal candidate will have:

• Educated to at least A level standard, HND or equivalent, preferably in a Computing discipline
• Excellent understanding of Oracle databases, related utilities and tools
• A sound understanding of the underlying operating system i.e. Oracle Linux
• Good knowledge of database design
• Excellent understanding of database and operating system performance tuning and monitoring
• Excellent knowledge of backup and recovery scenarios
• Experience of security management
• Understanding data integrity
• Awareness of the implemented Oracle application systems
• Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle
• Sound communication skills with management, development teams, vendors and systems administrators
• Provide a strategic database direction for the organisation
• Excellent PL/SQL package code development skills
• Oracle forms and reports development a bonus, Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
• Any experience of related Oracle products and technologies e.g. APEX, Weblogic Server, Oracle EBS applications a bonus
• Excellent problem solving skills and high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Good communicator with effective interpersonal skills to work well with people at all levels of the Company
